In these times of tough economic conditions, is money in shorter supply or is it time?  Sadly its a fact we've all come to terms with that you can find yourself using an awful lot of time doing things that aren't going to be greatly helpful in the long term.  Whilst you could be making plans for greater things, the chores and housework take up too much time to allow you to concentrate on that.

One of the many ways in which you can waste huge amounts of time is on computers; this is contradictory, since they were created to save time.  Unfortunately it became obvious many years ago that a huge amount of time can be wasted on tedious tasks like moving, saving and renaming files and folders.  If these chores were done away with, then you could move onto far more productive ways using your time; your next business product, your hobbies, or just good times with your friends and family.

One time consuming task for example is when you need to rename files , especially if you have a large music, photo or video collection.  You can't totally dump this task, but you can make sure you spend minutes on it instead of hours when organising your collections.  One of the problems right there is finding a batch file renaming program thats easy to use; so many of them are quite difficult to understand. What's the list of functionality that you need?

You need to be able to carry out your renaming swifly and easily with any software to batch rename files. But you must also look for extended functionality, like the ability to add increasing and decreasing numbers and dates, if you want to maximise your investment.  If you have or will restore files from backup at some point, then being able to clone or alter the created, modified and last accessed dates can be very handy.  The computer will tell you that the files were created after they were last modified, and its almost impossible to fix that with a large number of files without a good bit of software!

Of course you need to be able to add or remove simple text quickly, and try to make sure you can get a preview – if you make a mistake when renaming 1,000 files and find the mistake all over your computer you won't be happy!  And do make sure that any file renamer software you decide to use can change file and folder names, extensions or both at the same time.  An even better solution would be one which renames thousands of files in thousands of folders at once!

So remember to look not just for ease of use in software to rename multiple files, but extensive functionality that will help you cut hours of chores into minutes, and use the free time you're left with for maximum effect.
